Privacy Policy

Last Updated: January 2, 2025

Introduction

At Zlate, we believe that privacy is a fundamental right, not an optional setting. This Privacy Policy explains how Zlate ("we", "our", or "the extension") handles your data. In short: We do not collect, store, or sell your personal data. Zlate operates on a "Local-First" architecture.

Data Collection & Storage

We do not have a backend server. Zlate functions entirely within your browser environment.

  • API Keys: Your API keys (for Gemini, OpenAI, DeepSeek, Groq, or Claude) are stored locally on your device using chrome.storage.local. They are encrypted at rest by the browser and are never transmitted to Zlate developers.
  • Translation History: Your translation history is stored locally in your browser cache. You can clear this data at any time via the extension settings.
  • Browsing Activity: Zlate does NOT track, log, or analyze your browsing history. The extension only activates when you explicitly interact with it (e.g., via context menu or shortcut).

AI Service Providers

To provide translations, Zlate communicates directly between your browser and your chosen AI provider (Google, OpenAI, DeepSeek, etc.).

Important Note

"When you send text to be translated, it is governed by the privacy policy of the AI provider you have selected."

We recommend reviewing the privacy and data usage policies of the providers you use:

Third-Party Analytics

We do not use Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or any other tracking scripts in the extension. The only metrics we receive are anonymized, aggregated install counts provided by the browser web stores (Chrome Web Store, Edge Add-ons, Firefox Add-ons).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the extension or via our GitHub repository.
